Will Attending A Drink Drive Rehabilitation Course Bring Down The Cost Of My Car Insurance Premium?

Car keys next to a spilled drink owned by a drunk driver

Technically, attending a drink-driving rehabilitation course will not reduce the cost of your car insurance premium, but it is still well worth doing. Taking a course can reduce the length of your ban, so you can get back on the road quicker. You will also be looked upon more favourably by insurers, who are often reluctant to cover convicted drivers.

You can only take a drink driver rehabilitation course if you are banned for 12 months or more and if the magistrate offers it. You have to decide whether you want to take the course when you are in court – you can’t change your mind later – and it usually costs around £250. However, taking the course usually reduces the length of your ban by around a quarter, which is very useful if you want to get back on the road quickly. Once your ban is spent, regaining drink driver insurance can be difficult, but insurers will consider you less risky if you have undertaken a rehabilitation course.

However, Insurance Revolution can find you very competitive drink driver insurance after your conviction, whether or not you have taken a drink drive rehabilitation course. Visit our Convicted Driver Insurance and Drink Driver Insurance pages for more information.
