DR50 Insurance: What You Need to Know
A DR50 conviction is caused by an individual being found in charge of a vehicle while unfit due to alcohol. The term “in charge” implies that the individual doesn’t necessarily have to be driving at the time but could be found inside the car with the keys, often with the intention of driving should they remain uninterrupted.
A DR50 conviction results in 10 penalty points on the driver’s license, and these points remain on the licence for four years from the date of the offence or the date of conviction if disqualified. If you receive just the 10 points, you’ll have to be careful as you’ll be at risk of breaching the 12 point limit for the next three years.
Because the driver will be classed as high risk, they’ll need specialist cover to get back on the road, which is where we can help.
